Devra C. Moehler is a UX Research Lead at Google Search, where she works on AI trust and safety. Her career has focused on understanding how information quality shapes what ordinary people know, believe, and do. Before joining industry, she was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School of Communication, a professor at Cornell University’s Department of Government, a Democracy Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development, and a Fellow at the Harvard Academy of International and Area Studies. Her academic research examined the use of, and effects of, different forms of political communication on democracy and good governance.
At Meta, she conducted research for the Demography and Survey Science, Civic Engagement, Integrity, Social Impact, and Generative AI teams. Her projects included socio-political risk forecasting, impact evaluation of authoritative information products, and AI evaluation methods for Meta’s global products. She was a core member of the industry-academic partnership that produced peer-reviewed research in Science, Nature, and PNAS on Facebook and Instagram’s role in the 2020 U.S. election. Her most recent position at Meta was improving response quality as part of Meta Superintelligence Labs.
